Firefly 2100W Table-Top Patio Heater Review

Are you looking for a small but stylish table-top patio heater? A big fan of rattan? Well Firefly have the perfect heater for you! Available with a black rattan base and completely weatherproof!

Firefly – 2.1kW Table-Top Infrared Patio Heater with Black Rattan Base Review

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Firefly, but they’ve earned their love from us by providing an plethora of patio heaters with different features, functions and they’re all affordable.

This heater of course is not the exception to the rule. Amazon users agree as this heater has an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars based on 5 customer reviews. We’re here today to see whether this rating is justified!

Heating Area

This is a small heater, but fear not, it will easily heat an area up to 9sqm (95sqft). It’s table-top so realistically you won’t be needing more heat coverage (anything more from an infrared heater will most likely end up with people complaining that it’s too hot!).

Bulb Life & Heating Type

This high efficiency, clear halogen infrared heating element is rated for up to 5000 hours. If you were to use this heater for 2 hours a day, you could expect the element to last just shy of 7 years! Costing you less than £20 a year to keep warm.

Power Settings & Specifics

Three power settings, 900W / 1200W / 2100W. We really like adjustable heat features as it means you can enjoy the long summer nights on a lower power setting, saving money and then when winter hits, you’ve still got the power to keep cozy outdoors!

The power cord itself is 3 metres long, this shouldn’t prove to be too much of an issue, but make sure you’ve got a plug socket nearby before buying.

Aesthetics

This is a compact heater, standing at just over a metre tall (106cm / 3ft 6in). But don’t let the size fool you, it’s powerful and portable without compromising on heat!

We’re big fans of the rattan style. It offers durability without sacrificing style. The anodized aluminium alloy frame compliments the black rattan style and will survive being left outdoors without tarnishing.

The base is weighted to ensure the wind won’t take your heater away either.

Features & Extras

For outdoor installation this heater is weatherproof rated IP44. IP stands for ingress protection – this particular heater is protected against solids larger than 1mm (most wires and screws etc) and will survive splashing water from any direction (rainfall included) – a rating of 5+ means a product is resistant to water jets.

So unless you’re planning on washing your patio heater with a pressure washer it will survive the elements without failing!

Suitable For

This heater is great for home users and commercial users. Perfect for the patio or in restaurants, clubs, pubs or for events like weddings, receptions and more!

We can’t recommend this heater enough. It has all the features you could possibly want and won’t fail when the rain starts falling. It’s not the cheapest electric table-top heater on the market (also by Firefly), but the build quality and features makes it worth every penny.

How much does the Firefly 2.1kW Table-Top Infrared Patio Heater cost to run?

The average cost per kWh in the U.K is currently 14.7 pence. We can calculate the hourly usage on all settings by doing the following:

Heater running costs:

Full Power (2100W) – 2.1kW x 1 hour = 2.1 kWh x 14.7p = 30.87p (per hour)
Medium Power (1200W) – 1.2kW x 1 hour = 1.2kWh x 14.7p = 17.64p (per hour)
Low Power (900W) –
0.9kW x 1 hour = 0.9kWh x 14.7p = 13.23p (per hour)

Assuming we were to use this heater for 2 hours a night every night.

On full power (2.1kW or 2100W) our monthly electric bill will be £18.52
On medium power (1.2kW or 1200W) our monthly electric bill will be £10.58
On low power (0.9kW or 900W) our monthly electric bill will be £7.94

Although the retailer calculates a running cost of 8.4p per hour, we struggle to see how that’s achievable unless you’re paying less than 10p per kWh in electricity!

That being said, electric heaters are still nearly 2 thirds cheaper than gas heaters. You can see the savings in detail here.

PatioMate’s Thoughts

This heater is great for gatherings and commercial users alike. It doesn’t compromise on style and although there are some cheaper table-top heaters on the market, they don’t offer the same level of ingress protection that this one does. We would have liked to have seen a slightly longer power cable, but that’s what extension cords are for!
