Firefly – 2kW Halogen Weatherproof Parasol Heater Review
We’ve reviewed numerous Firefly heaters and there’s a reason for it. They provide affordable quality products, with long-life bulbs that are suitable in commercial or home settings. This parasol heater is no exception as it has an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on amazon, based on 5 reviews.
Available as a standalone parasol heater, or with wall-bracket for an extra £25.
The manufacturers claim a maximum heating area of up to 16sqm. Most 2kW heaters will provide between 8-12sqm but with a specialised quartz heating bulb they can squeeze a little extra efficiency out of their heaters. We would expect this heater to comfortably heat up to 14sqm with some residual heat provided to the remaining area.
Bulb Life & Heating Type
These quartz halogen bulbs provide infrared heat and you should expect them to last up to 5,000 hours before needing replacement.
Power Settings & Specifics
The Firefly 2kW parasol heater has 3 heat settings. 650W / 1300W / 2000W.
Rated 220-240V and comes with a 2 metre power supply cable.
This heater is stylish and comes in an aluminum silver colour with black plastic sides. It’s not going to win any awards for design, but it isn’t an eyesore either.
Features & Extras
With an ingress protection rating of IP34 this heater offers basic solids and liquids protection. Meaning you can leave it out in all weathers without it succumbing to the elements.
Solid rating 3 – offering protection against tools and thick wires larger than 2.5mm.
Liquid rating 4 – protection against splashing water from any direction (i.e rain).
It is also collapsible for easy storage underneath a collapsed parasol.
We believe this heater is targeted more towards the home user as it has a low purchase price and some ingress protection. It is perfectly suitable for commercial application, like restaurants and pubs.
How much does the Firefly 2kW Parasol Heater cost to run?
If we assume the purchase price of £69.99 (check latest price) and a full bulb life of 5,000 hours, this heater will cost you 1.4p per hour before electricity is taken into consideration.
Based on an average price of 14.7p per kWh this heater will cost you as follows:
Heater running costs:
Full Power (2000W) – 2.0kW x 1 hour = 2.0 kWh x 14.7p = 29.4p (per hour)
Mid Power (1300W) – 1.3kW x 1 hour = 1.3 kWh x 14.7p = 19.11p (per hour)
Low Power (650W) – 0.65kW x 1 hour = 0.65 kWh x 14.7p = 9.56p (per hour)
Assuming we were to use this heater for 2 hours hours per day.
Full Power – Our monthly electric bill will be £17.64
Mid Power – Our monthly electric bill will be £11.47
Low Power – Our monthly electric bill will be £5.74
An incredibly cheap overall heater. Running costs and purchase costs are both very low!

This is a great little heater. With a low purchase cost and high output, it’s hard to find anything bad to say about it! The ingress protection offers peace of mind in the wetter months and it fits any parasol pole between 25-60mm. For an extra £25 you can buy a wall mounting bracket or floor stand making this heater truly versatile.
Existing customers have mentioned that the power cable length of 2m is too short and we would be inclined to agree. Do make sure you have a weatherproof extension lead at the ready as most users won’t have a power socket within the 2m range.
Replacement elements are available, but the cost of purchasing a new heater is on par with the replacement elements so it’s a bit of a moot point.
