Optima Heaters – 1.5kW Weatherproof Wall or Ceiling Mounted Electric Patio Heater Review
Updated 27th September to reflect latest price decrease.
This heater would make a great addition to any home or commercial premises. If you’re looking to heat a small outdoor or indoor area then this heater might be perfect for you.
With only 1500W of consumption, this heater boasts up to 9sqm of heat coverage with a maximum heating distance of 2.5m.
Perfectly adequate for a small home gathering or individually heating bistro tables outside.
The heating angle is 120° with a tilt angle range of 30°.
Bulb Life & Heating Type
The Optima advanced patio heater comes with advanced carbon fibre elements. While the official website claims “over 5,000 hours” of element life to err on the side of caution, traditionally these offer between 5,000 and 7,000 hours of life before needing replacement.
Silent instant infrared heat is generated making these substantially more environmentally friendly than gas alternatives.
Power Settings & Specifics
These heaters come with no adjustable power settings – seeing as it is a relatively low powered heater anyway this isn’t a game-changer, although it would have been nice to see a 750W option.
It comes with a 1.8-metre long power cable, this is rather short for home users. Make sure you have a power socket nearby or have an extension cord to hand.
Running at 220-240v, 50/60Hz.
We love the look of these heaters and the built in 2x 3.5W LEDs make a great addition to the unit as a whole. Whether ceiling mounted or wall mounted, indoors or outdoors, customers and home users alike will love the aesthetic of this patio heater.
The unit is built from stainless steel (304 grade) with a brushed metal finish. This won’t rust regardless of how long it’s left to face the elements!
Features & Extras
The Optima Advanced Patio Heater comes with both wall mounting and ceiling mounting brackets and is ready to go out of the box. Each heater also comes with a handy remote control, which controls both the heat function and LEDs.
As an added bonus, the ceiling chains are adjustable up to 50cm.
This heater offers some protection from the elements with an ingress protection rating of IP24.
Solid rating 2 – protection from solids larger than 12.5mm. (Fingers or similar objects)
Liquid rating 4 – water splashing from any direction will not damage the heater in any way. We wouldn’t recommend running this heater while it’s raining though. Although it’s weatherproof, it’s not waterproof!
A great all-rounder with a few extra features. This heater is perfect for installation underneath an awning or gazebo (assuming at least 50cm height clearance) for businesses and pubs etc. It would also make a great home heater and the built in lights are a great addition.
How much does the Optima Heaters 1.5kW Patio Heater cost to run?
Based on a purchase cost of £89.00 *check latest price* we’ve calculated the cost of running our heater before electricity to be just a fraction under 2 pence at £0.018 per hour.
The official Optima Heaters website claims a running cost from just 15p per hour. Based on the average price of electricity at 14.7p per kWh in the U.K.
Heater running costs:
Full Power (1500W) – 1.5kW x 1 hour = 1.5kWh x 14.7p = 22.05p (per hour)
Assuming we were to use this heater for 2 hours per day.
Full Power (1500W) – Our monthly electric bill will be £13.23
Not too far off the mark, but maybe a bit ambitious to claim 15p per hour running costs. If you were to run this heater on an Economy-7 tariff at night you could run it for 10.65p per hour.

On the official Optima Heaters website, this heater is listed at £129.00 + £12 shipping. If you purchase this heater via Amazon you’ll be saving £40 (at a purchase price of £89.00 + £12 shipping)!
This is a fairly affordable heater and the 2-year warranty will cover any problems you may encounter.
If you’re looking for a heater that offers up to 22sqm of heat coverage and comes with a true waterproof rating of IP55 (but no LEDs) then we’d recommend spending a little bit more on the Optima Heaters “Blade Heater”.
