Alfresco Heaters 8kW ALF80 Patio Heater
Alfresco Heaters 8kW ALF80 Patio Heater

Another commercial heater today. Again from Alfresco Heaters in Ireland. We’ll be looking at the ALF80, the most powerful electric heater available from Alfresco.  They have a 9kW gas powered “Fire n Table” if you’re looking for something extravagant!

Alfresco Heaters – 8kW ALF80 Wall Mounted Weatherproof Patio Heater

These advanced patio heaters from Alfresco Heaters Ltd come in 7 varieties. The ALF25, 30, 60, 80& the ALFS25, 40 & 50 series

Heating Area

This heater is rated at 8000W and has a heating area of 25sqm – ample coverage for most commercial properties.

As with the ALF25, these heaters are wall or ceiling mountable. These heaters can be wall mounted or ceiling mounted as long as they’re not in a vertical position.

Element Life & Heating Type

With a patented quartz element, these heaters offer fast medium wave, radiative (infrared) heat and have an expected lifespan in excess of 7,000 hours. If you spend a little extra you get gold elements from the manufacturer which would increase the efficiency of this heater by 20%.

Standard element replacements for this heater start at £119.64 x 2 (£239.28), while the gold element replacement will cost £162.37 x 2 (£324.74).

The replacements may seem fairly pricey, but you’re paying ~£0.034 per hour for the two standard elements over the course of 7,000 hours. Or ~£0.046 for the gold elements. So while they do offer an increase in efficiency, they need to be about £50 cheaper to be the right economical choice.

Power Settings & Specifics

No adjustable power settings.

As standard these heaters run at 8000W (2 x 4kW) elements and draw 37 amps. Supplied with a 3-metre power cable and 3-pin plug.

Power information: 220-240V

Available in as standard in stainless steel or for an extra fee you can get these heaters in white or black. Measuring in at 156cm (l) x 22cm (h) x 20cm (d) they’re just over half the length of the ALF25 but offer a substantial increase in heat output.

These heaters are unobtrusive and work well in a commercial environment. They’re not too big either!

Features & Extras

Weatherproof Rating

This heater comes with an ingress protection rating of IPX4

Solid rating X – no protection from solids.

Liquid rating 4 – protection from splashing water in all directions e.g rain etc – “Tested IPX4 is suitable for use in case of rain.”

Suitable For

Great for pubs, workshops, churches and much more. It’s definitely more a commercial heater than a home heater.

Cost to Run?

Based on the current purchase price of this heater, our pre electricity price (based on a 7,000-hour element life) is £0.084 pence per hour.

This drops quite substantially to just £0.034 with a standard element replacement or £0.046 for the gold element upgrade.

To calculate our running costs we multiply the cost per kWh x Wattage – based on an average of 14.7p per kWh in the United Kingdom.

Heater running costs:

Full Power (8000W) – 8kW x 1 hour = 8Wh x 14.7p = 117.6p (per hour)

Assuming we were to use this heater for 9 hours per day.

Full Power (8000W) – Our monthly electric bill will be £317.52

These heaters draw a lot of power and cost a fair bit to run. There are more economical heaters on the market with similar heat coverage options that draw less power.

Better than the ALF25 – offers 5 times more heat coverage for just over twice the cost. Each Alfresco Heaters patio heater comes with a 2-year warranty.

It’s not a bad heater but there are more efficient heaters on the market that are either cheaper, or have a similar cost – Veito S2500
