The Firefly 1500W Ceiling Mounted Patio Heater is suitable for commercial and residential usage.
This Firefly ceiling mounted patio heater is available in copper, black and stainless steel. In 1500W and 2000W variants with remote control as an optional extra on the more expensive models.
We can’t fault Firefly. We’ve given all of their products near top marks and there’s a reason for that. The build quality is outstanding, their products are waterproof and affordable. This heater is no exception! We’ve broken down the specifics of this heater below.
Heating Area
Similarly to it’s more powerful cousin, this heater offers warmth in an area up to 9sqm (95sqft). Perfect for smaller gatherings, both indoors and outdoors. Great for pubs, clubs and restaurants as well!
Bulb Life & Heating Type
Halogen, infrared. Bulb life of up to 3000 hours. What more needs to be said?
Power Settings & Specifics
We’re sad that this heater only has the one power setting, but it’s fairly economical to run anyway and offering anything less than 1kW from a ceiling mounted heater is useless anyway.
Comes with a 1.6 metre power cord, so ensure you’ve got access to an electrical socket nearby.
If installing the heater within an awning / gazebo or tent please make sure you install it between 30 to 50cm below the ceiling for obvious reasons, and make sure there’s at least 6ft between the bottom of the heater and the floor to ensure correct operation.
Aesthetics
This is a visually appealing patio heater. Available in silver, black or copper. Although the copper variant is more expensive than the silver version at time of review. Both are affordable, given the choice we’d go for the copper over the silver but that’s down to personal taste over anything else.
Features & Extras
For outdoor installation this heater is weatherproof rated IP34. It also provides both light and heat for ambience and comes with a 50cm hanging chain.
Suitable For
Perfect for commercial and home users alike. These heaters can be hung from the ceiling and as long as you’re responsible they can be placed within suitably sized tents, indoors, as well as gazebos and awnings.
These heaters are great for both home and commercial users. Although we feel this heater is slightly more targeted to the home user as it has a lower price point than the 2kW version.
If you’re looking for a stylish heater on a budget then we highly recommend this heater.
Running Costs
Calculating the consumption of this heater is fairly simple.
The average cost per kWh in the U.K is currently 14.7 pence. So to calculate the hourly consumption we need to do the following:
Heater running costs:
1.5kW x 1 hour = 1.5 kWh x 14.7p = 22.05p
1.5W x 2 hours = 1.5 kWh x (14.7p x 2) = 44.1p
Assuming we were to use this heater for 2 hours a night every night.
On full power (1.5kW or 1500W) our monthly electric bill will be £13.23
These heaters are nice and cheap to run, and with no on-going maintenance costs will keep going without any additional financial input.
PatioMate’s Thoughts
A great all around heater that’s cheap to run, is weatherproof and easy to maintain. Although there’s nothing wrong with it, for just £30 more you can buy a more powerful version with remote control and multiple power settings. We feel the ideal price point for this would be roughly £60 rather than £70-90 as there are other ceiling hung heaters in that price bracket.
